Skin Cancer Awareness

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, there are approximately 1.3 million new cases of skin cancer every year. Some preventive measures have been shown to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer and improve your chances of early detection. Try to incorporate as many of these habits as possible:

  • Avoid sun exposure, specifically during peak sunlight hours of 10am and 4pm
  • Use a broad spectrum sunscreen and reapply frequently
  • Wear protective clothing, such as hats and sunglasses
  • Protect the parts of your body that are often exposed to the sun
  • Remember to protect your lips, ears, neck, and hands
  • Examine your skin regularly and seek medical attention for any new or different spots or moles

With summer in full swing, it is important to remind yourself of the importance of sun safety. Take the steps necessary to protect your health!
